Pick n Pay Spell Check In June 2008 Pick n Pay launched the first phase of Spell Check, an exciting initiative that was piloted in 2008 with Pretoria-based schools. Now in its second year, the campaign, which is designed along the lines of the traditional American Spelling Bee, is set to incorporate more schools in the greater Gauteng area. Alongside this competition, Pick n Pay will be running a national in-store campaign, called ‘A is for Apple’ to raise both awareness and funds for the Readucate Trust. The in-store campaign will see 5 cents of the sale of all red apples, going into the Trust. Erica Warner, National Marketing Manager for Pick n Pay says “the first people to benefit from the ‘A is for Apple’ Campaign, will be the farm workers from the participating apple farms as there is still a large percentage of farm workers who are illiterate.”
